The conference is organized to honor Edgar Allan Poe, one of the leading figures in American literary history, on the 200th anniversary of his birth (1809 - 2009). We invite you all to bring your contribution and highlight aspects regarding E.A. Poe's life and activity as a poet, short-story writer, editor, essayist, and literary critic.
The conference, to be held between 23and 25 October 2009, is organized by the Foreign Languages Department of the Faculty of Letters at Universitatea de Nord (North University), of Baia Mare, Romania.

- The organizing committee has decided to extend the deadline until June 15th, 2009.
- International participants may join our event via a videoconference facilitated by the American Corners all over the world. Please set up a proper time interval with the local American Corner office and send it to us at your earliest convenience, but not later than June, 15th 2009, so that we can arrange schedule details.
- A selected number of papers will be published in the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Review issued by the Poe Studies Association in the USA. There will be a special number dedicated to our conference proceedings. A further selection of papers will be gathered in a volume which will be published at a nationally recognized publishing house. The costs will be announced once the scientific board will have made a decision on the paper classification.
- The conference registration fee is EUR30 (for people present here in person) and it covers participation costs, coffee breaks, lunches and conference portfolio. For those wishing to participate via a DVC (viceoconferenicing) intervention the fee is EUR 10 (participants will receive the conference portfolio by post)
- All participants will have 15 minutes for paper presentation and 10 minutes for discussions.
